In the words of Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span, “One misty, moisty morning when cloudy was the weather”, and we discovered who the REAL mountain men are. While softies remained snug beneath the doona, 16 players made it to the starting line for a Par round. Today we farewelled David Toole (dah of Rob) who heads back to Scotland in coming weeks. David was very much at home with today’s weather and that showed as he delivered drive after drive down the centre of the fairways. His –3 was not really indicative of how well he played.
Winner on a countback from Nifty Clark was Gary Liddy, both gents returning +1 and registering in the ball comp along with Rob Toole who finished even. Nifty also grabbed the 8th/17th NTP thanks to the use of a Bruce Fraser 9 wood.
There was quite a deal of trepidation as players recorded plenty of negatives; some miserable scores caused genuine concern that they were serious contenders for the dishes. Conspicuous sighs of relief could be heard around the table as -3, was ‘bettered’ by -4, followed by -6, then Doc Golden’s -8 looked to have booked him an appointment with the sink…… before a pair of -11s! So back to the cards for yet another countback! Tiger Penney’s -4 on the inward nine snuck past Rob Lodders’ -5.
Congratulations to Cheryl and Gary Liddy on the arrival of their first grandchild, a baby girl. We were delighted to ‘wet the baby’s head’ in celebration. Thank you to Gags and Cheryl.
