We welcomed a newish member in Bryce Singh along yesterday as he submitted his first card for handicap and joined Graham Bysouth and Terry Penney as his playing partners. Thanks to both gents for making his first official round a memorable one!
It was our second team event, this time we were paired in an American Foursomes or Pinehurst event. This is where pairs drive and then swap balls, hitting their partner's ball before deciding which is the better of the two and then hitting alternate shots until the ball is holed. Many apologies were the order of the day for most groups. My personal apologies to my playing partner, Jeremy Clare, as he had to hit far too many of my drives from the rough or from behind trees.
Winners with a nett 61 and 5/8 were Peter Watson and Rob Beatson, comfortably from Gary Liddy and Burra, who took the NTP on the 7th/16th with a birdie after Burra knocked his drive to within a couple of feet.
The number 13 is unlucky for those with a superstitious bent and so it was for team Baker/Malakunas. Following H's abysmal chip which finished in the bunker, it was with some sense of justice, considering the amount of sledging of their opponents, that it took them 7 attempts to finally heave the ball out of the sand and walk to the 14th tee after carding a 13! They were resigned to having to wash the dinner plates and buy the Mega Draw tickets, but it was not to be as Graham Bysouth and Terry Penney snatched that dubious honour from them by 1/8th of a stroke! So it seems Henri finally getting the ball out of the bunker on the 7th attempt saved them...... well done H.
Next Wednesday is Mug o' the Month time. While this Saturday is a Memorial Day stableford.
Congratulations to Mick Doyle who was crowned the Medal of Medallists last Saturday.
Commiserations to Joggers Andrews who was defeated by a birdie from Patrick Doyle on the 23rd hole!!! of their matchplay.
